... or how her hobby became my job.
After building hives numbers 3 and 4 I realized that I had modified them sufficiently from the original plans that I needed to come up with my own set of plans. Doing it right (the plans that is) was much harder than I thought it would be but, as I've noticed before, the best way to learn something is to try and teach it to someone else.
Here's a pdf of what I came up with. Comments are welcome, but please be gentle.
Building a Kenyan Top Bar Hive (with diagrams and pictures!)
We decided to expand our little collection of hives and needed to get more bees and queens to fill them with. Since we couldn't get any more bee packages we then decided to try our hand at collecting swarms. Somehow I got the idea that we needed a bee vacuum (turned out I was mostly right) and did a little research. Here's what I came up with.
When we first started this whole adventure, I began to keep (rather haphazard) notes. (Susan said that she was going to do the same but I haven't seen any product as yet). Anyway, my comments were very sparse until recently when my notes have started to get too long for a single web page. Soooo...
