There are innumerable variations of the basic daiquiri. This is a daiquiri at its most basic, and sometimes simple is best.
2 oz blanca rum
1 oz fresh lime juice
½ oz cane syrup
Combine ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass and enjoy. Lime or lemon rind twist as a garnish.
If you'd like a Strawberry Daiquiri, muddle two or three ripe strawberries in the shaker before adding the rest of the ingredients. You might want to strain the drink through a fine mesh sieve into the glass.
While traveling in Arizona recently, I picked up a bottle of Cheri's Prickly Pear Cactus Syrup. Try replacing the cane sugar syrup with the prickly pear cactus syrup for a unique twist on the flavor and an eye catching pink color. You don't have to go to Arizona for the syrup, there are several on-line stores that sell it and I've occasionally seen it in some of the larger liquor stores.
